The South Egremont Spirit Shoppe

Located on the shores of the mighty Karner Brook in the bucolic, little hamlet of South Egremont, we are a small wine/beer/spirit store focusing on the little known, tiny production wines that come from a plant and not a factory. We specialize in customer service and finding the right wine for the right person and occasion. If you care about what you drink, where it comes from, and who is making it, this is your place. A beautiful ride from anywhere, we’d love to have you come visit.

Dan Thomas-Well Respected Sommelier

Dan (Mr. Magnum) comes to the retail side of wine from a distinguished career in the hospitality industry. A certified sommelier, Dan has been Wine and Bar Director for the Red Lion Inn and Main Street Hospitality for the past 10 years prior to that he was the Wine Director at the White Elephant on the island of Nantucket. Besides enjoying large format bottles of just about anything and a strong affinity for bubbles, Dan brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to the South Egremont Spirit Shoppe that is unsurpassed. Dan has traveled the wine world over from the caves of Domaine Drouhin in Burgundy to the wine ghetto of Napa Valley. To understand the depth and breadth of Dan’s desire to share all that is good in the world of wine, one need just peruse the shelves at SESS.

“Remember, gentlemen, it’s not just France we are fighting for, it’s champagne!” –Winston Churchill

Tom Morrison-chalk master

The other half of the South Egremont Spirit Shoppe, Tom makes his way to the Southern Berkshires by way of years of customer service in the wine industry, both on and off premise as well as the distribution side. Between stints with the Nejaimes brothers, Tom worked for both Winebow and Atlantic Beverage Company as a fine wine specialist. Just before opening the Spirit Shoppe, he was the GM at Spirited in Lenox. The SESS is the culmination of a 25 year old dream to express his idea of what wine should be all about. Along with his unwavering love of a spot of whiskey and a pint of something dark, Tom loves finding the unique and obscure; those wines that go well beyond expectation and keep folks wandering what’s next. For Tom, it really is about food, family, friends and getting the best out of life.
